Blogs create a faucet between the teacher and her students. It allows students to be active participants of their education, while helping others to gain more knowledge on a topic through technology. The teacher must take into account all the pros and cons that are associated with using blogs in the classroom. We have analyzed all the advantages and disadvantages of blogging in order to allow educators to find a way to enhance their students learning.

Pros:
  • Blogs create a strong community among classmates allowing them to be active participants in each other’s learning process.
  • When used properly students will be able to acquire good reading and writing skills. (It is a known fact that people write more elaborate when the are writing for an audience.)
  • Makes learning fun due to learning through technology.
  • Allows students to speak freely and not bee hesitant to ask questions.
  • Students will learn from one another. Peer to peer learning is more beneficial.
  • Students love blogging, gives them a voice.

Cons:
  • Teachers need to make sure that they follow security guidelines.
  • Blogs can be expensive and tricky to setup.

When using blogs in a classroom the teacher must think thoroughly on what they want their students to gain from the blogs. The teacher must make the experience fun, and not make it tedious to push students away from this great learning tool.
